so an update; i hooked up everything as shown in that .pdf, wnd while i could get the solenoid to activate when pushing the switch to release the air pressure/close the flappers, pushing the switch towards the thru hull direction to fire the pump just resulted in the pump not running, but my voltage gauge dropped to nothing with the switch activated.
i took the pump out and put it on my bench, and i see it's rated to draw 8.5 amps... hooking it up to my battery charger the pump will run, but the analog gauge on that charger shows the pump was pulling around 20 amps while it ran. i took the motor apart and noticed one of the spring loaded brushes was out of place, so i reseated both and reassembled. now its pulling 15 amps, but the pump will come to a stop after a few moments, after which a few more moments i can hear a click, after which i give it power it will run again. i assume this is the thermal switch working, i'm guessing due to the excessive amperage its pulling.
i checked the ground in the boat and it's good. any ideas? i have yet to verify where the swtich in the boat is getting its 12v hot from, that's my next step.
