New to me boat almost here (270 Sundancer). Shore power with new HVAC, has an alcohol burner in the cabin, microwave, 12c/120v frig, water heater, etc. but no genset.

Have used the various grills (Coleman, Magma) on a friend's boat before, which we used to be on every weekend. Part of the reason for going with a cabin cruiser is we want to head to the marina Friday night, have dinner, drinks, relax (in the slip), overnight on the boat, and then head out for a day of fun on the lake the next day.

So, newbie me = no problem. Don't particularly want to use the alcohol stove or cook smelly things in the cabin, will add a Magma or similar on the swim platform or elsewhere. Will kinda small coffee maker.

Well, ok - except for the no flame at marina rule, while we're also going to be out at anchor for lunch and early dinners, and no generator.

What have you guys done with similar plans? I guess we could pick up both an electric and propane grill, and swap 'em, leaving the electric in the deck box when we head out, but looking for thoughts.

Ideal scenario is we bring something to the boat in early evening and reheat, but something like pasta might be doable on the boat. Throw rest in frig or in cooler, drinks and relax for the night.

Morning - eggs and potatoes, coffee at the dock.
Head out on the lake. Somewhere lunch to early dinner-ish, grill food - fewer problems on this one - foil packs, sausages, chicken, all good. Might occasionally want coffee mid-afternoon. Heading back in eventually before dark. Might do dinner on the boat at the marina, or wrap for the day and head home.

Should I just get a 120v small coffee maker and an inverter? I started out thinking just a french press or pour-over (just the two of us usually), but gotta be able to boil the water including at the marina, so... Should I use the alcohol stove for the sole purpose of boiling water in a kettle?

Thoughts and options?

On my 27' Sundancer we usually use a small single serve K-cup coffee maker when on shore power and an old school percolator on the alcohol stove when on the hook. I have a Magma for most cooking but just prefer the smell of coffee brewing in the cabin early in the morning:) My 1000w inverter won't power the K-cup (about 1500w) but I wouldn't want to use it anyway as coffee makers really burn up the amps which I would rather save for the fridge. No genset on my boat either and I only have 200 amps in my house battery bank.

Thanks - am realizing the coffee makers and even electric kettles are all 1K+ Watt devices, as are the electric hot plates.

I think I need to check out the power draw on the microwave for in slip usage, and sort whether or not I can find a warming plate + maybe use the alcohol stove as you mentioned. Will also check out the single K-cup power draw.

I think my biggest piece of the puzzle is how we cook basics(e.g. eggs) in the slip without flame, and if it's possible short of an electric cooktop we leave in the dock locker when we head out. Not worried about spending a few $$, would just prefer it's something workable... :)

use the alcohol stove and a simple camping percolator or a french press for the coffee.

I have a 12v/120v camping percolator that I grew up using in addition to the camp fire percolator. both are at least 45 years old and works as good today as they did when dad used it to make coffee on camping trips.

The other thing I have done, filled a thermos or two, and set them on the intake manifold while tooling around. the coffee stays hot.

a few pasta salads, cut fruit and a charcuterie platter along with a few bottles of wine go a long way.
