115eltj. I Just found a tinny little spot where there is water coming out from the powerhead! In the picture there is a bolt dead center of the picture. Just under it in the picture there is some discolored paint and that is where the water is seeping out off. I didnt want to even wipe it off because it might get worse. Is there anything i can get to seal it up??? This really upsets me because this is a new to me motor. Im not sure what to do. Id does not come out fast at all it just is barely enough to pool is that spot. I dont want it to get worse Help!!!!!! JB Weld??? Help!!!

NO JB WELD! You will play he!! getting it back apart.
Not sure by the picture what bolt is leaking but i have had that happen before
on my 175 exhaust manifold.I pulled the bolt and put some aviation gasket sealer on it and no more leak.

You should post in the outboard repair forum...

Re: HELP!! cooling water leak on the motor!!!

Its not a bolt. there is no seal or gasket. Its right below the bolt in the center of the picture. There is only metal there. Its like coming through the block or something. Im not sure what to do. Not sure if someone can weld it or what. Thanks though im upset about it as i just did a lot of work on this motor and just now noticed this. In the picture there is a bolt coming up right in the center of the picture and right below that there is some paint that is discolored and that is where the water is coming from. Its fresh water so i think the cooling passage is right below there.

Drewmitch, what have you been smoking today? Did you forget that there are fora for engine questions?

This is the second post in 5 minutes that I have had to move for you. You didn't identify the engine so I am simply going to guess that it is a Johnson.

Well, I found out you have a Suzi. I found this post posted TWICE in the Suzi forum.

Fortunately, we have no rule against posting while under the influence.

I will now move this to the Suzi/Yammy forum and lock it.

Looks like and the model number matches a v-4 Yamaha. If it is not leaking around the bolt itself. JB Weld may be your only choice.

Re: HELP!! cooling water leak on the motor!!!

Yea there is nothing around where the water is coming out. Like i said it is verry verry little amount. Do you think that someone can actually do a spot weld to fix it? I am afraid that it might get worse. If it stayed the way it is forrever i would not worry about it. In fact i will use it the rest of the season the way it is. I was running it to test the oil injection when i noticed it. I just wonder why it happened. Is the block really thin right in that spot?? Im just wondering how something like that starts. If i notice it get any worse im going to take it to my yamaha dealer and see what they say. I just want someone experianced with yamaha to look at it and advise me. I dont want to replace the whole block of a perfect running motor. And by the way the oil injection is working ok i got a syringe to measure the cc's and its within specs. Thanks all for all advice!!! If anyone knows anything else i can do Please let me know!!

Are you sure there is water actually coming out of the block here or is it just water that was sitting on there. If you were running it in the water with the hood off it is very possible that water just splashed on there.

I would use the quick. It is thicker and will be easier to manage. Clean the surface well first.

Re: HELP!! cooling water leak on the motor!!!

I think im going to try the JB waterweld. It's made by J-B weld. It has a 12,000 psi compression strength, max temp is 300degrees F. It says you can use it on gas tanks, water tanks, presurised lines, and also it can cure under water and in moist enviornments. What do you guys think? i think this is my best bet. I called the yamaha shop and they said that they obviously would have to look at it, but if its like I am describing to them then they would use something like the waterweld or just maybee a tiny tack weld to seal it up. The guy told me if i used it though to do a couple of thin layers instead of 1 thick one. reason being is that there is obviously the water cooling tunnel(or what ever thats called, where the water moves in the motor) and he said to be careful not to use enough to seep inside the little hole and stop it up in there. Im going to give it a try when its not 105 degrees outside. What ya guys think?? Thanks for your help so far and ill let you know the results.

Re: HELP!! cooling water leak on the motor!!!

Just to whom it may concern. IT WORKED!!! I just ran it for about 30 min after work today in a test tank at idle - about 2000 rpm in gear and out and not a drop of water coming out!! Im so releaved. Thanks for the input. I was worried that if it leaked around the waterweld stuff that i had made my problem worse by adding a hunk of steel strong junk on top of the leak. But so far im pretty confident that its going to hold up.
