Help figuring out how to fix my issue I’m having with my boat.

I was wondering if someone could help. I changed my lower unit because my old one got trashed. The problem I’m having is that the shift pin won’t match up to the top to allow it to go into gear. I took the lower unit back off to see if it was possible to adjust it higher but there wasn’t.

First, the make and model of your motor will help everyone give you good advice.
Second, when you say you trashed your other lower unit, what do you mean? You hit something? What happened to the other lower unit, as that may have caused you issues elsewhere in the motor.

I have a 1988 regal medallion 185 with the alpha one gen 1 mercruiser. Yes I accidentally ran into some rocks

I took the lower unit back off to see if it was possible to adjust it higher but there wasn’t.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... There should be a big silver washer on top of the shift spool in the lower unit,.....
That washer pushes the shift foot, up into the shift shoe,.....
