Re: Help from somebody who owns a force 75hp motor!

I own a Force Reference manual for all '97 Force motors. It contains info on torque, part numbers, engine / electrical diagrams, settings etc. I do not know the difference between a '96 and '97 motor but you can compare it to your engine and decide if the mechanics are the same. Send me a private e-mail with a fax number and I will copy all info on the 75 horsepower motor and fax it to you.

There is no factory setting.
Each carb/motor must be tuned.

The starting point is 1 turn out.

Re: Help from somebody who owns a force 75hp motor!

To set idle mixture follow these steps while motor is in water and running:

1. Turn idle mixture screw clockwise until lightly seated.
2. Turn idle mixture screwcounterclockwise (1) turn.
3. Start motor and allow to warm up to operating temperature.
4. Shift motor to forward gear, move throttle/shift lever to lowest possible setting.
*IMPORTANT Motor must idle for minimum of one minute to allow fuel recirculation system to begin functioning.
5. Turn idle mixture screw clockwise 1/8 turn at a time, allowing 10 seconds between adjustments, until motor begins to pop from the lean fuel/air setting.
6. Trun idle mixture screw counterclockwise (richer) 3/16 turn. This should be very close to the optimum setting.
7. Advance throttle to WOT to "clear out" the engine.
8. Return throttle to idle speed (in gear) and allow engine to idle for at least one minute.
9. Quickly advance the throttle to WOT. If the engine hesitates because of a rich feil mixture, turn the idle adjustment screw 1/16 turn clockwise to "lean out" the carburetor and repeat steps 7-9 until the engine accelrates without hestitation.

To adjust idle speed:

Turn engine off before making an adjustment change.

1. Adjust idle speed screw on towershaft until motor idles at approximately 750 rpm (while in gear).
2. Loosen jam nut. Turn screw in (clockwise) to increase idle speed. Turn screw out (counter-clockwise) to decrease speed.
3. Re-check remote control box throttle cable adjustment at engine.

This info is straight from the maunal, hope it helps.

There is no set in stone setting.
Each engine/carb must be tuned, because each engine and components are different, as is the carb. Every carb may have a slightly worn needle valve seat, or fuel amount of gummy buildup, or the fuel may be different from when the engine was manufactured.
