I would like some suggestions on how I can get my 12 foot aluminum fish boat up on plane quicker. The boat has a flat, wide floor, and weighs about 150 pounds and I usually have a battery and an electric motor on the back. I use a 4-stroke Yamaha 9,9 that weighs in at just under 100 pounds, It has the stock three blade prop. I do not use the 9.9 for trolling, so slow speed is not an issue. I find that it takes a fair bit to get this boat planing. The front end of boat lifts a fair bit during the first few seconds before it flattens out. Would a prop change help? If so, what are the accompanying drawbacks?

You need to move some weight forward or take along a friend. A new prop may not do much.

Is the cavitation plate close to level with the bottom of the hull? I would consider a hydrofoil for your application, as well as trying to shift some weight forward.

Move some weight forward and trim in the motor.
