help getting retainer off.

I started to work on my lower unit today and ran into a little problem. I can't get the retainer off. I got the four screws off but the retainer is stuck in. I have a 1979 chrylser 4hp sea king. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Never mind, I got it out. I used 2 socket, a long nail, and a hammer.
