Hi

I have a 1997 5.7 Mercruiser Carb. It is closed cooled with a half system. I bought the boat (242 Regal Commodore) used and don't have the manual for the exchanger and there are no labels / markings on it anywhere. In winterizing a few days ago, I pulled the end caps and discovered the seals are both torn. have searched the web but can't seem to locate anything similar. Hoping someone out there can point me in the right direction.

Cheers

Thanks guys - I think I may have answered my own question here, thanks to your quick help - but to be sure, I was being thrown off by the raised (bubbled) sections of the seal...I am now guessing these are not in new seals, and are the result of heat and suction...acting to pull them in and causing the "bubble".

I think you have bubbling cause down. But if a chunk tears off, and there seem to be some tears, it could partially block the exchanger or the exit path of the water from the exchanger until it exits through the exhaust. Cheap enough to fix and it's apart now, so................

Totally - I'm going to order some right now and get them installed before the snow flies, and up in these parts that could be any day now...I would be remiss if I never noted that this site is an amazing place...I am fairly new to this type of boat but I do regular repairs and maintenance on basically everything I own. This site has never led me astray and has filled in the blanks to give me the knowledge to do basically everything I need. Many thanks.

Cheers
