Hello.

I have a 1972 omc 120. Here is a picture of the engine. On the left side (close to the camera) there is a cylendar hooked to the engine and pipes running into the block. Is this some after market fresh water cooling or a power steering pump? It is no where in my manual.

They are part of your fresh water cooling system.

Wow didn't even know I had that. Does it need to be filled with water? Any maintenance I need to do? This is my first inboard/outboard.

Thanks!

It gets anti freeze in it. The heat exchanger is basically the same thing as a cars radiator. Difference is, the heat exchanger uses raw water from the drives raw water pump to cool the antifreeze instead of air like a car does. The water is then sent out the exhaust to cool the exhaust as well. That way those hoses don't burn up every time you run the boat.

Ok good. So what type of anti freeze should I use? Should it just be filled to the top of the canister?

Thanks again!
