Just bought a 1998 Bayliner Capri 1950 with a 3.0 mercruiser. It needs a new prop. I pulled old prop off and here are the numbers inside.

48-832832-21L

I am assuming the 21 is the pitch. I tried measuring the diameter but I am afraid it is not accurate as
the tops of the blades are ground off. I think it is 13 or 14 but want to be sure.

Can anyone tell me the diameter by the part number on the prop?
Thanks

I googled that number 48-832832 come back to a 14 1/4 X 21RH. Not sure what L is for in your number though?

Dont' worry about the diameter for replacement purposes. Buy a prop by the pitch dimension....21.

Keep in mind that just because you have a 21 doesn't mean you need a 21....share your full speed RPM and speed data and we can help you confirm it is correct.

"L" may likely designate a left hand prop....opposite of normal rotation. This would be a little odd for a 1998 3.0, but it is possible. It is CRITICAL to know if you have a left hand prop or right hand prop for buying purposes. A photo of the prop posted up here would allow us to tell you whether it's left-handed or not.

You sound appropriately propped. Keep in mind if you are considering changing materials, design, or number of blades, your RPMS may still change....sometimes more than you think....

I cannot see what the attachements are. Not working for me anyway. I assume you tried to attach prop pics?

Attachments not working....can anyone else see them, or is it just me???

If you change to Stainless in a similar pitch, your RPMS will drop. So you may need to go down a pitch a little bit to keep them in a nice spot like where they are now...so a 19 in a stainless will likely work better for you than a 21. Solas is popular around here. You might even need to go lower than that depending on how beat up your current prop is. If it's really chewed up it might be slipping a lot, which falsely brings your RPMS up.

What are your performance objectives compared to what you have now?

Still need to identify for certain if you have a left hand or right hand prop. I may be flat-out wrong on what that L means in your model number....just making an educated guess.

the prop was good until I drug onto the boat ramp. hard lesson learned, my buddy loaded boat and forgot to trim prop up. anyway I was satisfied with the performance of the blade that was on it. It got on plane fast and top end speed was acceptable. I spoke with mercury and they said it was a black max prop according to model number and that it was a right hand prop.

Re: help identify prop specs from model number

I would expect it should have been a right hand prop...almost all of them are.

If you liked it, buy another. Those RPMS are perfect, you were happy with holeshot, and your top speed is quite good for a 3.0.

I am a huge fan of stainless, only because it probably would have survived such an incident with nary a scratch...they are substantially more durable. But on a 3.0, don't expect much substantial improvement in performance...maybe a little. The more HP you have, the more you notice the benefits of stainless. 3.0 is kinda on the edge of not noticing too much...

I do feel you'll need to drop to a 19 pitch if you decide to buy a high-performance stainless, it will bite the water much harder due to added rake/cupping and greater efficiency. Or, if you liked your Black Max, just buy the exact same prop, save the extra cash over stainless, and call it good...
