Sorry it's only a 'little' engine!!. In desparation i'm going to throw this thing soon if i can't get to replace the impeller:- Story so far:
1. Got bottom of leg off, no problem
2. The housing for impeller broken, but can replace
3. Outer s/s tube removed
I am now left with the inner drive tube still attached to the impeller/gears & the impeller cannot pass over the drive tube as the hole in the impeller clearly won't be big enough!!
HOW ON EARTH DO YOU REMOVE THE DRIVE TUBE? SO I CAN GET TO THE IMPELLER??

Thanks anyone that can help, i'm in despair..!!!

Ok, hold up a minute......

"inner drive tube still attached to the impeller/gears"

What do you mean by that?

"Impeller cannot pass over the drive tube as the hole in the impeller clearly won't be big enough"

This really has me for a loop...

Are you talking about the "drive shaft" as the "inner drive tube"?

The impeller should slide up the drive shaft and off the end... Don't try to remove the shaft from the lower unit gears!!!!! There is a key that holds it somewhat fixed to the shaft to keep it from being loose, but it should slide upward with a little work...

I'm not familiar with your engine, but that is the way most impellers (if not all) are installed or removed....

Re: Help !!! Impeller Replacement 2 HP

Thanks for that

Unfortunately there is NO WAY the impeller & the metal flange on top of it will pass up the drive tube. The tube is smaller diameter just above the impeller, for about an inch, then it is larger in diameter & too thick for the impeller to pass up it !

Any further thoughts very much appreciated

Re: Help !!! Impeller Replacement 2 HP

The Seloc manual for the 2HP Mariner shows this larger section above the water pump housing. It indicates that there is a circlip connector underneath the pump housing that must be removed. Loosen the pump housing bolts, slide the housing up the shaft far as far as it goes, and find this circlip (circular clip). Remove it. Putting it back on is apparently stressful. It uses words like take a break, have a cup of coffee, try again, with patience. So good luck.

Thanks Walter, i've checked though and cannot see any circlip under the housing. All there is is the impeller and the metal gasket type thing on top of it. I can move freely the gasket thing but again it, and the impeller, will not pass the drive shaft!!

Anyone else throw any light on this? it's baffled me. If i take the circlip off the bottom (in the gearbox) will the drive shaft then slide up & away? it's the only possible way i can think that i may be able to get to the impeller......seems rediculous to me though!!
