So I have this boat with the following engine in it. I believe it is a 1991 Mercruiser 4.3 2BBL (175 HP), but I am not sure as the only markings I can find are the ones included in the attached pictures.

I also think I need to replace my alternator belt, as when I go above 2000 rpm's the voltage at the battery is only about 12.3V, If I am running around 15 rpm's I am showing 14.4V so i am thinking the alternator belt is slipping?

Also there is a hose that has a hole forming in it, is that an exhaust hose, and can I wait unti the end of the season before I have to replace it? I am not sure how it got there as there is a good inch between the belt and the hose, but it looks like a wear mark...

more likely you have the Mando alt with damaged internal winding that goes open at 2000+ rpm
alt belt is dancing around and cutting into the water inlet hose, replace it now.

Ayuh,.... Ya need that hose, without an extra hole in it...

Clean, 'n paint yer pulleys, or the belts will turn to dust in no time flat...

The rust is eaten up yer belts...

Thanks, I will look into that. Will I have to pull the engine to replace the alternato and hose, or can I replace them without having to remove the motor. Also thanks as I was trying to figure out what that hose was for. Am I right in assuming the motor is a 4.3L as I will have to order new belts as well?

Ayuh,.... Sounds right....

Whether ya gotta pull the motor or not, depends on the Boat,... not the motor....

I can't tell you by looking at it, neither can anyone else. It looks like it, but they looked similar to that for several years.
Now, if you get the serial number off the block back just above the starter on the block where it meets the flyweel cover then we can find out for sure what year it is.

Think camera if you can't get your head in there to read it. May take several shots to get it right, but they make a great tool for looking for things.

Thanks, that makes sense, it is a 1991 Thompson Carrara 195. So If I can get my hands and tools down there I should be able to do it in the boat? The third picture at the top shows the amount of room I have to work with.

So I could not find a serial number on the starter, at least not that would show up on a camera, but I did find two on the Out Drive though: 0D564157 and 0D569992 if that helps

The tag is not on the starter itself, it's above and aft of the starter a little.
