Help me decide- Johnson 30

Found this motor for sale just down the road. Pull start, tiller, beat up prop. Are 30’s very common? Took a look at it but the model and serial #‘s are too worn off to read. Guy said it was his father-in-laws but he had used it until last year. He ‘thinks’ it’s an ‘89 or ‘90. It’s got some corrosion but not terrible. The recoil spring is sprung and he says the carb needs cleaning. The motor is not locked up and the prop turns when in gear and moving the flywheel.
So, I already own an Evinrude 25 with remote controls that I service as needed, so this one would be a ‘fixer-upper’ to repair and probably flip. My concern is the gearcase. The prop is showing that it took some major shock loads. What’s the chance that there’s a busted or chipped tooth down there? Here’s the catch- the seller seems motivated because he mentioned they are moving soon.
Is it worth $350 bucks? He wants $500.
Off the top I see prop fix $100, recoil assembly $90, carb kit $30, fuel filter, lines and gear oil $50, new plugs and carb cleaner $30. That would put me in about $650 if nothing else is wrong.
Let me know what you think!

you really should check out compression ... must be me but I do not understand folks beating their motors

mdl and serial#s worn to much ??? was it polished to much .. hardly
father in law's ? .... maybe maybe not but it was certainly somebody's father in law .

your call me I would shop around for a nice working 30hp with fewer issues

Thanks for the info guys. The serial/ model numbers are etched on a plastic sticker that has seen better days.
Yeah, this motor was rougher than I thought it would be. If I go back I’ll take a compression tester, but I don’t see another visit in my future.

I have a 1987/1988 Johnson 20hp in nice condition with the model and serial numbers invisible. The printing is just gone. I think it's pretty common
