I have a tach connector on my mercontrol

And it has 1 plug in it which is the tach sensor and the other 2 are postive and negative for use with console stuff that needs electricity. My Tacho is a Stewart Warner (SW) tacho which just has a red bolt and nut and black bolt and not on the back how do i hook it up to the tach connector like where do i put the tach sensor cable.

Also do you tihnk a 4.4m runabout (de hallivand 1974) with a 65hp Mercury thunderbolt 1970 motor could pull a water skiier?

Thanks

Sounds as if you have a tachometer designed for an inboard/outboard. I am not sure you can convert one to an outboard tachometer.

Youe boat might pull a skier...just try it. People do ski with less power.

Bob

I can pull a skier on my 15' with a 65hp Evinrude. You may have to change the prop to a lower pitch and even add a foil but you can make it work.

And what exactly does tihs do does it make it speed up faster but lower top speed or something?

Thanks

So what i have is an inboard/outboard tacho? The pitch of the Prop is the angle of the Blades. They are not shorter! Less angle means less pitch and the prop will turn faster, thereby increasing RPM'S at take-off and at all other speeds. That relates to more thrust when you take off from a standstill, but can also lower your top speed, becauce the "flater" surface of the blades will not propel you as fast as a more curved surface, in the simplest terms I can think of! As for the Tach. I don't know if you are calling the "Wires" cables or what, but out of the control box, you will have one large cable with 3 wires inside it. One Ground, One Hot and the other goes to the rectifier or senser, coming from the Motor. On the Tach, you would connect 1 to Hot, 1 to Ground and the other to Sender. WHEW!

That should work! Make sure the selector on the back is set to "1"!
