Tomorrow I plan on installing this

I have a a group 24 deep cycle battery to power it. My rough plan is to mount the battery in the front in a battery box that is strapped to the back of the front bench. Next I would grab some schedule 80 or 40 (or some type of conduit) and run it down the side of the boat to carry the power cable. I want to buy some sort of an electrical connector so that I can easily plug in and unplug the motor. I would secure the battery box with a lashing strap to the front bench.

Can anyone help me refine my material selection (what type of wire, conduit, and connector suits my needs best).

Re: Help me install an old rear tiller trollong motor

Well just in case anyone does decide to chime in the job was completed today. I bought 13' of red and black 10 gauge wire, a 10 foot length of PVC electrical conduit, a group 24 battery box, and an Atwood trolling motor connector set. Attached the battery box to the front of the front bench with a lashing strap going around the base of the bench (you can see what I mean in the picture above).

I installed the electrical connector by opening up the hole in the rear corner brace. A pretty slick fit. That connector looks like this 207212.jpg

All connections are made with butt splices that are then wrapped with silicone electrical tape (non adhesive tape that stretches and sticks only to itself to give a pretty darn good water tight seal).

What I am not happy with is how secure the battery box is. I guess I will post some pics tomorrow because I would really like some ideas how to make the box install rock solid. For now I kinda prefer that it's not a permanent install (bolted to bench permanently). I'm a little worried that the battery will put too much ballast in the nose of the boat when I am fishing with a partner.
