Help me pick where to install a SI Transducer

Hi guys. I just bit the bullet and ordered a Humminbird 899ci and I'm trying to get a head start before it arrives. From what I've been reading, the location of the SI transducer is very important, and since I know next to nothing about this stuff, I thought I would defer to those more in the know.

I'm needing to pick the best spot to mount my transducer. The current transducer for my Humminbird 561 is port side, but I've read port side is not the best option. 75% of my fishing is on an electric only lake, so for the most part I won't have to worry about the engine at all. Since I do not have power trim though, I'm hoping to find the best spot so that I'm not manually trimming my engine more than I'm fishing the other 25% of the time. The boat is a stick steer, so I'm not traveling at really high speeds if that matters.

I was hoping to attach a photo of the back of my boat, but I'm getting invalid file. I just created a photobucket account and hopefully I can post the link correctly.

Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

You install it in accordance with the instructions. Download the manual. But the best location is the same spot as what you have now but on the other side.

It would seem the exact same place the one in your pictures is located. The side is determined on where you want the display units installed and either side will allow it to work the very same...

Don't know about Humminbird bit Lowrance/Eagle cautioned about turbulence on left side and too close to the drive on either side.

Thanks. You guys confirmed what I was thinking. I had read you want it on the right side but wasn't sure if it should be fairly close to the engine or further out from it. I'll probably match it to the one I have on now but on the other side and work from there.

You probably want it on the right side. I just did an SI install and the directions are very detailed on where to put it. You don't want it close to the motor or prop due to interference from the prop. Also, the water displacement of the transducer can disturb the flow of water over the prop and water intake of the engine.
