help me please 50merc 500

hello can anyone help me.<br />i have a 50 mercrusir 500, the motar starts but is reving to high,i thint it is stuck in the wot( wide open thotole). <br />could this be causing it not to go into gear, and the prop spins when in gear.<br /> can any one help me.<br />thanks....pgjc

It sounds to me like you have your warm-up lever raised all the way up. This will cause (1)the engine to rev high and (2) will not allow the control to be shifted into gear.<br />After it's in gear, the prop is suppose to spin.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty
