help me understand stator??

My 2000 225 ram ficht will start fine 75% of the time but the other 25% it will not warm restart after sitting for a lil while? Next day it will do the same thing. And now it won't start at all.. cranks fine but jus dosent turn over.. I'm told its a bad stator? Does that intermitn starting seem llike a possible stator symptom
