:eek:I have a 1984 Mercury 150 and I cleaned the power trim connections because they were turning green ( don't know why they turned green)

Now I have one green and white wire, one black wire, and two red wires (one with a rubber boot over it. I have the green and white wire on top, then the red wire, then black and then the other red wire

I attempted to attach the main connections to the battery and it looked like the 4th of July with sparks.

Does anyone have a schematic of exactly how the wiring should be and where the small metal plate goes now that I obviously didn't wire it back correctly?

You have 2 solenoids. Tha metal "jumper" plate goes between tha BIG terminal studs on tha solenoids. Tha red with tha "boot" will also attach to either one of tha same terminals. Tha other smaller red will go with tha "booted" red.
Tha other large stud on each solenoid should have a wire that is marked either blue or green. If they are not marked don't worry about it. Tha solenoids also have 2 small terminal studs. Look at these. 1 small terminal stud on each solenoid will have a small black wire attached going to a GROUND screw. Tha green will go to tha other small stud connector (same solenoid with tha large wire with green markings) on one of tha solenoids. Tha white (probably a really faded blue) will go to tha small stud terminal on the other solenoid. Tha black is a ground that has to attach to tha pump at some point. If its tha small one it will go with tha same small grounds coming from tha soleniod grounds.
Now if ya get it all hooked up and tha trim buttons work backwards just swap tha tha small green and tha small white. This might happen if tha other big wire on tha solenoid is not marked blue or green. Justa 'bout clear as mud, huh!
Best I can do. Don't have tha schematic.......................
