Hi Everyone,

Looking for some assistance.
I have an old Yamaha 200 V6 on my old boat.
Unfortunately I have not been able to use the boat over the last few months.

I had the hydraulic end caps replaced in April and the hydraulic unit check and and it looked good.
Since June though I have been away so the boat is sitting outside my house in a salt water.

The problem is that on returning a week ago the motor is stuck up!
The mechanic says its probably an air lock or something and the manual release should solve it. Motor is fine. No sign of a leak of any sort. Unfortunately after getting in the water to get a close look the valve screw head is in a VERY bad state. It cannot be turned at all with the boat in the water.

I plan to get the boat out of the water and replace this but to do so I need to get the engine down.
Any one have any ideas? Is there any other way to drop the engine at all. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

After you remove the boat from the water you will have to remove the valve screw assembly (remove the snap ring) or the steel tubing from the bottom of the tilt/trim cylinder. In either case be prepared for some oil spilling out of it.

At least you won't have to worry about tilting the engine up when you pull the boat out of the water.

Since the engine is up, you could try pulling the boat to a sandy shoreline so that the filler for the lower unit pump is safely above the waterline. Remove the filler plug and try running the engine up and down to clear the air lock. My guess is that you are going to have to have the boat towed to the nearest ramp and pull her out of the water then follow lawcki's lead.
