Before i go into my problem i just wanted to say thanks to all that participate in answering these question. This forum has a vast knowledge and a pleasure to read.

Ok, my trim up buttom on my throttle lever (quicksilver) just stopped working. It has been working fine, then saturday when i hit a rouge wave it just stopped working, trim down works and so does the trailer button. I looked through my seloc manual (1997 Mecruiser 3.0L alpha) and did what the trouble shooting said but it doesn't really help. Any ideas. So to review............

Trim up button on throttle lever has stopped working
Trailer button works fine and so does trim down.

Ayuh,... My guess is, the trim limit switch bit the dust....

Real Manuals are in the Adults Only section to steer ya through it...

Wouldn't have any effect on the button but it would make it stop working. It's most likely the trim limit switch. Try jumpering the wires that go to the trim limit switch and see if the trim up button works then. Don't know what outdrive you are running so can't say for sure what it might look like but there should be a couple wires coming from the drive over towards the wiring harness by the trim motor.

On mine, (commander 3000 series control) the trim switch has a rectangular shaped plastic cap on it with the up and down arrows. It's the thing your thumb actually presses on to trim up and down. It snaps on to the actual switch which in my case, had popped off of the switch and felt loose and wouldn't trim up. Down was fine and the trailer button was fine.
I took it apart to find the collar around the top of the switch which holds the cap on had broken or worn down so the cap would rock instead of activating the switch. I stuck a little epoxy in the cap and put it back on and so far so good.
Crowley Marine website has diagrams of the Mercruiser controls that may help and the adults only section has the manuals for them with diagrams too. I hope this makes sense.

If the feeling of the switch has changed, that is a great place to start.

i did what tschmidty said and the trim up buttom worked. To replace the bad switch, is this something i can do or should a dealer do it. What's involved.

You can do it. Trim limit switch is on the starboard side. Held on with two philips head screws. Two wires go through a holder on the inside of the bellhousing. Take off the two screws, take off the holder screw in the bellhousing and pull the wires out. Fish the new wires through and reattach. Job done.
