Re: help- need lower unit housing/gearcase.

How did the crack occur, and is it worthy of repair?

Try some 'steel' epoxy, or JB weld, may work.
i used jb for smoothing my skeg before refinishing, it was real rough, like at least 3/4" chunks taken out, took two applications...... may work for your problem,
'steel' epoxy is in a plastic cyylinder(local auto parts store) and you cut off what you need and squish/mix between fingers, i would sand all surfaces with 80 grit, then "V" out the crack and stuff it with the 'steel' epoxy, then sand it and spread jb weld over it to smooth it,clean and spot paint.... test run in water( close to shore)....

maybe others have better suggestions, i am a newbie here too........
