help needed on lower unit of 1998 yamaha 250

i had water in the gearoil after looking over everthin i found out the bearing housing for the perpeler shaft was cracked and the o ring was sticking out the side i need to know how the get the shaft and the bearing housing out i tried a slid hammer and can't seem to move it i need to know if there is something that i am missing.. on taking it apart thanks

lower unit has to be dropped. post picture, sounds like you gonna need a lower unit antway

yea i have the lower unit droped i just need to get the shaft and bearing housing out to see if i can be fixed

if your trying to pull the shaft and carrier by using a slide hammer attached to the prop shaft you have to remove the shift shaft first.
to pull just the carrier I use the puller legs from OMC and oxygen acetylene.
if its a left hand case the carrier and propshft come out as an assy after removing the shift shaft.

Rob, thanks for the reply. Yes we are using a slide hammer. We thought about using a little heat on the casing but was worried about warping the housing. We did remove the Shifting shaft and tried the hammer without luck. And you do think a bit of heat will help? Thanks for the help, Jereme

yep.
I go through several bottles of heat every year.
saltwater is wonderful stuuf.
