Hello,

In a few weeks time my seahorse 6 HP isn't running smooth anymore. It started with a lot vibration and i think misfiring. Checked idle adjustement, and the gaps on points and plugs (points .020" plugs .030")

After that problem hasn't been solved I cleaned the carb put it back on and the problem was still ther. So I bought a new set of plugs (gapped them on .030") Now problems getting bigger: 1 engine is hard to start, won't idle and it only runs smooth on WOT

Anyone who can help me in the right direction fixing this problem

Dennis..... First, check to make sure you have compression and that the reading is even on both cylinders. Should be approx 70 - 80 psi (or higher).

Then check the spark (with the s/plugs out). The spark should jump a 1/4" gap with a strong solid constant blue flame.

If the above checks out okay, you may have overlooked something in the carburetor, but most likely (from what you've said), it is out of adjustment. Adjustment procedure follows:

(Carburetor Adjustment - Single S/S Adjustable Needle Valve)

Initial setting is: Slow speed = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns.

Start engine and set the rpms to where it just stays running. In segments of 1/8 turns, start to turn the S/S needle valve in. Wait a few seconds for the engine to respond. As you turn the valve in, the rpms will increase. Lower the rpms again to where the engine will just stay running.

Eventually you'll hit the point where the engine wants to die out or it will spit back (sounds like a mild backfire). At that point, back out the valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you'll find the smoothest slow speed setting.

When you have finished the above adjustment, you will have no reason to move them again unless the carburetor fouls/gums up from sitting, in which case you would be required to remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetor anyway.

Thx Joe,

Compression is OK, I think the coils are getting bad. While cranking there's just a little yellow spark on one of the plugs the other plug is the same but this one is not firing each round of the flywheel. I'm checking ignition system today.

I pulled the flywheel yesterday, diconnected all the wires took de points and coils of cleaned the surface of the plate, put everything back (coils don't look bad, not black or cracked) put the flywheel on. Pulled the wire aprox. 8 times and it ran great idles good WOT is good. The problem now is the starting of the engine. Could a load wire give the problem of a weak spark??

check the conection of the spark plug boots sometimes they pull away under the plastic boot. the spark has to jump to far to plug so it will jump to the shortest ground point.
