Hello,

I recently purchased a 1990 Cajun Fish & Ski. The previous owner used it only as a ski boat and so he removed the electric bow trolling motor. I mounted a new one this weekend but I'm not getting any juice to it...There is an outlet at the bow with a switch next to it labeled 'Troll/Charge' so, it looks like I should be able to plug a trolling motor into it or a charger.

In the back of the boat, I've got two batteries (other than the one that starts the engine) that are linked (??) together. This is the part I don't get....There are wires connecting each battery and a large connector thingie with some sort of little plastic black box adaptor things where the wires connect....It's all REALLY corroded...Sorry for the horrible description...I don't have a manual for the boat and I'm hoping someone here can explain to me how this setup is normally supposed to work...

Thanks!

Did you get a 12 Volt trolling Motor? Sound like he may have had it hooked up for 24 Volt Motor. Start from scratch and clean everything up and if you have a 12 Volt, just run one Battery to the plug up front!

The black "Box" that you mention is probably an isolator for the 2 Batteries!

Ah! I like that idea...Yes, I got a 12volt troller...that would clean things up quite a bit. Thanks!

Re: Help Newbie with battery questions

Ok, a guy here at work just told me that I need to get two 6volt deep cycles and wire them in series....this will be the best performance/price combo for a 12 volt trolling motor...

comments?? Thanks!

A 12V deep cycle is fine. Just get the biggest one you can get into your compartment.

Don't do it! If one 6V goes, you're done fishing for the day! Rely on a quality 12 Voly Deep-Cycle and you will be fine! Less wiring, too!

Re: Help Newbie with battery questions

thanks for all the help...I decided to go the traditional route...I picked up two big ol' deep cycle 115 AmpHour babies and ripped out all the old wiring...hooked them up in parallel and bingo! All systems go. Can't wait for this weekend!
