This is for my 1990 Johnson 50 as per my sig.

I just rebuilt my carbs, and and mechanically had no problem.

When I was reinstalling them, the only thing that got disconnected electrically was the fuel primer...because you have to disconnect it to move it to replace the fuel lines. Hooked it back up the same way it came off.

I had unbolted the starter for a minute to give me more hand room while reinstalling the carbs, but didn't mess with the wires.

I previously had no electrical issues that I knew of.

I rebuilt my carbs because we suspected a clogged high speed jet was causing the boat to sputter at medium to high throttle under load. It started and idled just fine.

No it's not doing anything at all when I turn the key.

The battery is good.
The kill switch thing is on.
The boat is in neutral (can't move the fast idle arm if it's not)
I don't see any fuses anywhere to check.
My Seloc manual isn't much help with this....

I'm lost and need guidance.

I have a multimeter for testing anything.

Please help.....I was so proud of myself for rebuilding the carbs, but now this just stinks.

Re: HELP! No response to turning key

found something...

pulled a plastic cover of the electrical box at the right read of the motor. There is a thick red rubber thing with a short 20 amp glass tube fuse.

The fuse is blown.

Why would that fuse go?

I suspect that this is my big problem.

OK, got a replacement fuse, installed it, tried to start.....nothing.

Checked the new fuse.

Blown.

Help?

Hey....
I am no expert for sure, but you probably have a short that is blowing that fuse... Look and make sure none of the wires that you moved are touching something they shouldn't... (block, each other)....

Re: HELP! No response to turning key

Go with the obvious first. Re-re-confirm anything you disconnected electrically.

Did you disconnect the battery when doing all this work? Is it hooked back up correctly?

Look by the solenoid to make sure that nothing is grounded. Mine gives me trouble if it is not placed just so-so in its bracket. Same is true for your starter, If you disconnected it and pulled it out of the way, did you stretch out any wires and cause a short when putting the starter back on. Same for the pump

Re: HELP! No response to turning key

OK, I disconnected the electrical to the primer, cleaned them up and reconnected.

tried it again. Blew another fuse.

turned the lever on the primer to prime, pumped my bulb a bunch of times and then my motor started!

I think the primer was working too hard with no fuel in it yet and that's why the fuse was blowing.

Took the boat out on the bay for a test run.....I'm starting a new thread.....
