I know a guy that has this boat that I kind of would like to buy as a project to fix up. Its a Cobalt boat, supposed to be a 20 foot. It needs a piece of front windsheild glass and one side glass. The interior is gone from the windsheild back. Ok the boat was bought at a sheriffs auction and it had a fire in it. The floor seems solid in it. It has a small block Chevy in it supposed to be a 327 at least its says it on the side of the boat which dont mean anything to me. I have been looking on the net for one like it for a couple months now and I cant find anything like it. Nothing that has the vinyl graphics on the side and also this one has a jet drive. The fire damage took out the interior, it would need a new doghouse built over the motor and all the hoses and spark plug wires etc. are burnt. Dont even know if the motor turns over. And it would need rewired. The steering seems to work good. The hull and fiberglass all seems good. Anyways I know it needs alot of work, but honestly whats it worth? Also can anybody give me some info about the book I.E. model # and Specs? I think the owner thinks that he has a gem if he fixed it up, I just want a cheap project boat about this size. And its on a good trailer with brakes. I know this picture sucks but its the best pic I have of it from a side veiw. Also it was too around midnight. Anyhelp would be really cool. Here is a URL to a pic. Thanks.

URL would not open but anyway - I think you should assume that the engine is a basket case and that there is a huge amount of other work to be done before you could put it in the water. I would not offer much in case these assumptions are right. If they are you will know what you got yourseld in for. If not, you may be pleasently surprised. In any case don't underestimate what is involved.

I sold my Cobalt with a good Chev 350, recently rebuilt, good interior, new Bimini top and a good trailer, for $2500. Had trouble selling it with an OMC I/O with only fresh water operation. It was an 87 Model if I remember correctly.

The way you describe it, I Wouldn't pay anymore than $500. for it......<br />As SoLittle states,"In any case don't underestimate what is involved."<br />This is a Major Project.... You should assume that you'll be rebuilding from the bare fiberglass Hull Outward.... This way, If the Stringers,+ Transom Aren't already Rotted, That'll be one less thing to rebuild....Same for all the other systems in a Complete,+ Running Boat....<br />And, In a Worst Case Senario, You'd get most of your $500. back from selling the Trailer... <br />Good Luck either way..... Sounds like a Lot of Fun...

Thanks for the help guys, I probley wont buy it now but I will pass info on to the owner who is a friend of mine. I went and looked at a 79 or 80 I dont recall 20 foot Mark Twain today. It had a small block in it and had a 898 ( I dont remember if thats the right number or not) mercruiser outdrive on it. I'm new to the boating thing and this will be my first boat. I'm planning on purchasing this boat.
