I just came into possesion of an old bass boat. It is a fixer-upper. The motor does not have a prop. Obviously this is not the motor that came on this boat. I am still trying to determine if I want to spend the time and effort on re-doing this thing, so I want to get a prop that will just get me moving in the water to see what kinds of issues this thing has. I was told by my local boat shop mechanic to look for a 13 1/4 with somewhere between 19 and 21 pitch. I just wanted to get the experts opinions on here. Here are the specs that I have:

1975 18 ft. Ranger Bass Boat, tounament hull
1984 Evinrude 140 V4

Thanks,

JB

Sounds reasonable.
I'd ask the local shop if they had anything used laying around for cheap.

Thanks. They did have one that was beat up pretty good and the price tag was $90. He said he would sell it to me for $75. Does that sound fair to you?

I hope that the prop is a 19 pitch. For that motor, you might not want to go to a 21 pitch just yet. For an aluminum prop, that is not a bad price, considering newer ones are well over $100. Stick with aluminum at first, if you like how the engine runs and want to keep it, stainless steel would be good later on down the road. Stainless steel will help you plane quicker, but if you are in shallow water, the aluminum would be a much better option.

NO. Used props around here go for $25-50...and not beat up.
You can scare up a new one on eBay for under $100.

I am having no luck finding a 13 1/4 X 19. I see a lot of 13 1/4 X 17. Do you guys think that would work just to get it out on the lake?

Sure a 17 will work but you need to be aware of your rpm.
Prop doesn't have to be 13 1/4 as long as it is intended for your motor.
