help on prop size /trim cilinder

hey everybody happy new year, <br /><br />when i got my boat, it came with one trim cilinder, this one use one long, one short hose coming from the bellhousing, the long one attatch in the middle of the trim ram. my ??? is can i use a diffrent set of trim rams with both hose the same lenth.???<br /><br />my friend from the marinea gave me a set of rams he claim, came from an alpha gen one setup. will it work on mines?<br />my boat is 1989 sea ray 220 DA aft cabin 5.7L merc alpha gen one drive.<br /><br />also what the best prop size for this boat??/ <br /><br />dont want to start a new tread on prop size hope i get some help here thanks <br /><br />god bless

The best prop is a guessing game....<br />The first item you want is to find a prop that puts you at the top of the recommended RPM range for your engine, with a normal load....<br />From that point, depending on the performance values you want, it can be fine-tuned from there.<br />As for the trim system, I can't answer that...we pull the parts off the shelf according to the book.

Your trim cylinders are a direct interchange....<br />As long as you use Pairs....<br />The older rams with the 2 short trim lines are a 1" bore.....<br />The newer rams with the different length lines are 1 1/4" bore......<br />Either will do the job..... as long as they're used in pairs.....<br /><br />What Walleyehead said about the Prop Choices.......

what size boat? what prop do you have now? single or dual engine? how old is the motor? was it well taken care of? what does it weigh? stainless or aluminum?<br /><br />89 sea ray aft cabin (27 footer?)probly gonna be pretty heavy anyway, maybe a 15x15 or a 14 1/2x17?? <br />maybe 14 1/2 x 19?? <br /><br />so many variables so little info<br />not gonna be a go fast boat no matter what prop i dont think but what do i know? :) <br /><br />go here they have a good section on props and how to select one<br /> http://www.boat-props.com/propeller...cruiser&year=1989&rotation=Standard&x=47&y=17

it is a 22 foot aft cabin sea ray 220 5.7l 260 horse power
