Re: help on prop

If the shaft is moving that much it may be excessive though I'm not a Force expert.

Re: help on prop

Make certain that the prop nut is tightened properly so that the prop is not moving on the prop shaft.

Re: help on prop

No, that is not normal. First remove the prop and see if there is a thrust washer on the prop shaft behind the prop. If there is no thrust washer, run, don't walk, to your local Mercury dealer and buy one.

Second. Although it is a Force, various props including Mercury will fit. Some will have a different hub length and the shaft will protrude too far, letting the prop slide forward and backward some when the nut is fully tight. If this is the case, simply add a couple of big stainless washers over the shaft and behind the prop nut and washer.

Re: help on prop

I've been wondering the same thing except mines on a Mercruiser I/O. Put a new SS prop with the FloTorq 2 hub kit from Mercury, torqued it to 55lbs per the manual and have some give forward and backward.
