I am attempting to rebuild my carbs and put Boyesen reeds in my 1986 Johnson 200. STL model. The motor backfires out of the exaust at idle. I have been told the reeds will fix my problem. The question is, Boyesen is telling me I need to down size my air idle jets by 10 sizes(.010) My shop manual does not specify which one is the idle or intermediate jet. The one on the top is #48 and the one on the bottom is #14. The reason I need to do this, boyesen says, is because it will richen it up so it wont backfire, cough, spit thru the carbs and break a reed.Any help is appreciated.
