What can I replace the entire whats left with??? I guess what I am trying to get out is Do I have to go back with a alpha or???

Re: Help outdrive delima

Might I add that this was given to me because they knew I had a couple of boats already. Yhis makes 5 boats ranging from 27' to 14'! The wife is not to happy with the newe addition. Should I just make a fish attractor out of it and convert the trailer into a redneck type hauler??

Yes you have to stick with an Alpha drive. Alpha 1 Gen II drives will not fit, neither will a Bravo.

I think it depends on the condition of the rest of the boat...and what you would do with it if it were "whole". If you put a new drive in it ($2200) what would it be worth? What else does it need? Could one of your other boats use an engine transplant?

Lots of options here, but you may need to sell something to keep the Admiral happy ;)

Re: Help outdrive delima

yes there are lots of options, but I really dont need the boat It is beginng to look like one of those winter projects to help out with cabin fever as the couplre of cold months pass

It came on a new Boatmate aluminum I beam tandem trailer (still has white paper on the tires!)/surge brakes the boat with a host of junk and 3 good props. The motor was installed in 99 now has 2hrs on it He locked tha alpha on the start of break in on the motor, yada yada yada

the boat hung in the boat house till his divorce and it was " Jay come get ths boat before they figure my net worth." Bada bing I am taking up a little more real estate on my humble abode.
The hull needs a floor, the beams are tight , the cuddy vent cover gone. Seats in realitivly good condition. The motor was pickeled and turned regular. I pulled the covers its new alright also have the recite no BS there. On the same note this fellow is pretty reliable .If he said it break out the chisel.

Sonds like some of those 'I got a new BMW for $500 cause someone was getting divorced' stories may have a hint of truth to them.

Its true trust me, the checks in the mail. It really is a toss up all I had to do was drag it home and transfer the tag on the trailer. I just need to get a few more facts together on the boat so I can either get started on a refurb or find another willing Mr.fix it whos honey is a little more lenient on having extra boats around the house.

Re: Help outdrive delima

I finally figured out what the model was it is a 1987 Caravelle RC 225. This boat is huge to be only 22. I guess I'm just not accustomed to this type of cuddy. Anybody familiar with this model? It has a load of teak accents all around, on the bow, swim platform, handrails, cabin doors. Better get out my sand paper. Real shame he let this one set up for so long.

I stroke out everytime I get a lake ring around my regular toy.

Re: Help outdrive delima

Jrocket, if you look at this from a business ($$) perspective, that boat, complete, in good running condition and no defects other than normal wear and tear is worth about $2,000- 3,000 with trailer. You said that the floor was shot and it was missing the outdrive. I am going to guess that there is probably other items that also need attention. I do not see any way to make this profitable, unless you can find a working, used alpha for less than 500 bucks.....that is hard, even on eBay.
I would pull the engine, make sure it is running well and sell it. I would then, try to sell or give away the hull. Last, sell the trailer. You will come out way ahead of trying to fix this boat and sell it whole.

You're gonna have to transfer the ownership (title and registration) on the boat also.
