help picking a new prop

Good evening<br /><br />I have a 1970 17' Ranger bass boat with a 60hp evinrude with an aluminum prop. I would guess that it is the original prop. I would like to get a new prop to increase the performance but I do not have a clue. I would appreciate in and all advice. Thanks All

What size prop are you running now and what is the WOT RPM's? What do you want to increase, hole shot or top end? What kinda speed are you getting now?

I am not sure how to tell what size prop I have now. I would like to increase the top end speed. I have no speedometer.

2 things you need to know, or find out, before you can go any farther.<br /><br />1-- the diameter and pitch of the prop you have, also make, style, and part number if available.<br /><br />2-- the rpm's you are running at when you are at wide open throttle.<br /><br />Any advice or guesses without this info would be worthless.

Can you reccomend a tach. I hvae not seen any. i HAVE A 16 FOOT SYLVAN TILLER WITH A 60 so obviously no console. I guess I could put one on the side but only need it for testing wot for rpm for prop. What should a marina charge to prop for top end excluding the cost of prop.

MikeBass<br />Most props will have size and pitch printed on them or at least the part number. You can messure the diameter with a tape mesure, tip of one blade to center times 2. Look for pitch and size in hub area.
