Hi Everyone

Im new to the whole GPS scene, and decided i need one for my trip around lake Ontario. Problem is that most models online only claim support for American Waters/ coasts.

I was wondering if anyone knew a good marine GPS with software for Canadian Waters.

Can custom Canadian maps be loaded into any gps? If so whats the best GPS to buy for under 400$

Thanks so Much

Don't know what type you are looking for but I can recommend the Garmin (Vista, Legend) color display portable units.

I have the Vista model and love it. It is portable (car, boat, canoe, hiking etc) so the screen is smaller but it is the most versatile GPS line I have seen. I have complete marine charts for all the great lakes as well as the full Trent Canal system and Ottawa water ways. Software needs to be bought separately and is not cheap ($149). I also have complete topographical maps for all of Canada and extremely detailed roadmaps of all of North America. As a bonus, the unit has the auto-routing feature so I can use the full capability of GPS in the car.

Another vote for Garmin. Garmin's Mapsource cards or CDs can cover the globe if that is what you want.

I use a 276C portable/auto/marine unit with maps for Lake Of The Woods and many other recreational lakes.
