Re: help PLEASE ...carb ????

I edited the type size down from #5 so it's readable.

it is running way too lean? Too much gas bogging down,

That doesn't make sense. Is it too rich or too lean. Can't be both.

there is a spring loaded scrw on the right side of the carb is this an adjustment for the flow?

There are several spring loaded screws on carbs. Which one are you referring to?
Pictures would help.

Now, calm down and think.
Does this engine have a model number, or year or any way to ID it?
There are adjustments, and trust me, rebuilding carbs is at best a 50/50 chance of sucess and it working as it should. Was this a professional rebuild or DIY?

Re: help PLEASE ...carb ????

Sorry for the lean thing, i;m a mom that bought a boat for the first time and having big problems keeping me from useing the boat, so here goes, omc i/o 3.o l cobra gs, had a boat repair place take me for quiet a bit of money so i need to know as much as i can about the problems i'm having, yes, it's bogging down, runs good at idel and little bit above but giving it med gas starts bogging down, i'm a quick learner and a man standing at the dock said your needing a new carb, but i just had this one rebuilt, and he said there is not an adjustment on the carb and i know better than that! I wasn't born yesterday, and before i forget, thank you for all your help mom camping with 10 yr old son that would love to figure this out.

Still not sure what you have there. It also can't be fuel injected and carbed. One or the other. If it has a holley or other carb, I don't think the external adjustments are your problem. You can check to see if the choke is opening as it warms. You will have to remove the flame arrestor and look. If it's running rich (too much fuel), you should have a heavy exhaust smell when it's running, possibly dark smoke. Too lean and it will backfire (pop) thru the carb. It could be the ign is not advancing. Could be a fuel delivery issue. When was the last tuneup and filter changes? There is an antisiphon valve where the fuel tank meets the fuel line. It can get crudded up and not work properly. It's gonna take some troubleshooting and verifying.

Have you thought about taking it back to them and telling them that after all that money it doesn't work?

And what do you mean by bogging down.
Describe exactly what it's doing. and when.
Are you giving it throttle and it wont take it, does it miss and not pickup speed, does it die if you give it throttle? What rpms is this happening at etc.
Does your boat have a water seperating fuel filter? IF not, you could have water in your fuel. The carb could be rebuilt, but if there is still water in the fuel, it's right back in the carb.

One hint, forget about going boating till you get the problem fixed. Or your frustration factor will just keep increasing and you will get no where.

Also need a FULL model number of your engine. 3.0 Cobra gs is only a portion of it. and you do NOT have a BRP outdrive. BRP doesn't have an outdrive. Cobra SX probably, but not a BRP OMC never made fuel injection on a 3.0l engine either.
