guys,

I just dont understand. I just cleaned the carb out. float was missing needle, so i replaced it. now i can keep it running only if i pump the carb full of gas and then disconnect hose!!! and then i have to hold the throttle in the start position plus hold this other piece wide open and i have know idea what that piece is. I have picks i will put of that piece. Then the damn motor leaks crazy gas or oil. whats happening????? Sorry no photo. its directly behind the choke and throttle it looks kind of like the choke but rotates differently. it has something sticking up from it also. i think the choke is suppose to connect to it somehow. there is a bolt that has a spring on it screwed into the carb. when that piece touches it the motor dies. or if the throttle goes to far left. i am clueless. it is a gamefisher 5 hp motor. '83 number i believe is 217.586613. sorry i cant get a reply on the other forums so i tried here. thanks.

Sounds like your float height isn't set right. Leaking gas from the carb and having to pump it to keep it running. You will need to post photo's of the "piece" in which you are referring to so we can help.

I wonder if beings that the needle was missing, is the seat still in there? If there is no seat, the fuel wont shutt off, and it will leak like crazy. Just wondering.

Re: help please!!! i cant keep it running!!

First off while carb is off turn it upside down (bowl up). Attach a hose to fuel inlet. Try to blow (with mouth) through hose. You SHOULD NOT be able to if float/needle/seat is working properly. Then turn carb back over (bowl down) and blow through hose. You should be able to blow through. Might not be the correct way to set float for theese motors, but I usually hold carb upside down (with float on top) and make sure the float is parallel with carb body. Some also said place a (11/64" don't quote me on the size please....) drill bit in between float, and carb body. Is the rubber piece that you refer to the size of the needle cavity? My wondering is that if needle was missing, did somebody (before you) remove needle and seat to use on something else? Check out cavity good to see if there is anything down there. If there is not, than you may be in buisness. Can you email pics in a private message?
