Help please Yamaha 8 hp

Hi guys, I have quite an old Yamaha 8hp 2 stroke. Started it up today and noticed the water was not pumping well.So I took the leg off, checked the impellor all seems ok.Then placed wire up water pipe nothing really noticable.Then put back together started up engine,water is now coming out, it starts fine, tick over fine, but the water was very hot! is this normal for the water to be to hot to put your hand underneath it? I dont think it is!!

Any ideas chaps!!
