help plz

ok so i bought a 1974 sea sprite.It has a 55hp chrysler engine on it.here is my problem and somone plz help.It has a control panel that will move backward but not forward.Now it only has 2 wires or cables or we runnin to the engine.is there suppost to be more for reverse or what.idk yet if i move it back if its forward or backward but if its forward how would i get it in reverse

One cable should be the throttle and the other should be your shift cable. The cables are synchronized. When you pull it back, it goes into reverse and still advances the throttle. Same when you push it forward for forward gear. Hope that makes sense.

Did you attach the control cables to the engine yourself? If you did, did you attachch them to the correct ball jiont?

One cable should have a long stainless steel barrel end. This is the throttle cable. the other cable will have a stainless barrel end half as long as the throttle one. This is the shift cable. Throttle cable clamps to the silver colored shaft that controls the carb and timing advance rod. Shift cable clamps to the white lever on the side of the engine.

Remove the control box and take a photo of the inside of that too, please.
