Ok, stay with me for this explanation. I ran my '87 malibu with a 351 Commander out of gas. After rowing back to the dock i filled it with gas and started it and headed out again. Once out the boat would not go above 3000 RPM. Thinking I sucked in sludge I changed the fuel filter, water/fuel filter, and cleaned out the screen in the carberator.
Still the boat runs great at idle but once I hit between 2500 and 3000 rpm it runs terrible. With the throttle full on the boat will not exceed 3000 rpm.
This boat ran perfectly before running out of gas.

Thank you in advance,

tom

Might do good to do all the filters again, and pull the top off the carb and see if junk made its way in. Get a spare gasket kit first. And you are playing with gas...be careful!

Re: HELP!!! Ran out of gas now Problems...

Stuff gets past fuel filter all the time. I have a large (oil filter size) fuel filter/water separator and a inline (glass type you get from Pep Boys) fuel filter. The second filter picks up stuff the first didn't and I am sure stuff passes it. It just depend on how much stuff pass at any one time on weather or not the carb can pass it on through. Unless the pick up in your tank or your lines are clogged its either a filter or the carb. There is nothing else it can be.
