We own 2005 Rinker 270 Fiesta Vee with 5.7 Gi-E Volvo Penta gasoline twin prop.
We just replaced the fuel pump (high and low pressure), problem is the connector box on the main engine wiring harness is 'burnt'. So we bought a cable #V21242089. The 'plug' for the high pressure pump will fit, but the wire cable itself is WAY to short. I noticed the black (ground) wire on the new connector is smaller than the original wire one on the main wiring harness. My question is, 'Can I just cut the new plug off the cable we bought keeping a few inches of wire and then cut off the old plug and just make a hard connection? even though the ground wires are different sizes?
When I search for the connector part #3855021 it doesn't show up on the skematics of my engine, but it does show up on other Volvo marine engines.
I have the correct connector to make it work, but unsure if I can connect smaller ground wire to bigger ground wire.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
