Help!! Starter issues

I tried to start my boat today and it was being more stubborn than usual. I kept trying to start her over and over until my starter made a horrible high pitched squeal. I tried once again and my starter made the same sound. To the touch the starter was burning hot. What did I do? Any help is appreciated.

Let it cool down and see if it still makes the noise. You may have just overheated the starter. If it still does it after cooling off, you can take the starter apart and lube the bearings and clean the brushes, or have it rebuilt or by a new one.
