Re: Help to identify

Do you have any more photos? That looks like a 60's trailer. Back in the 50's and 60's there were hundreds of small shops making runabouts so IDing it will be tough! Do you know the year of the engine?

Engine is a 1969 40 hp johnson electamatic. Looks like someone did a little cutting to lower it down a bit!!

Re: Help to identify

All I can say as to brand is that it does not look like a Starcraft. Seeing as how the engine and trailer (I think) are from the mid to late 60's, I would be guessing thats about the hull's age as well. Anyways, it looks like a nice boat!

Thanks! Will keep researching. Even the hull number 2-H-17962 doesn't bring up any leads..Hmmm... nothing like a good mystery!

I do not see where anyone lowered your transom, appears stock to me.As far as it being a Clipper, nope.Look at the line going down the side of your boat just above your chine, there is not one on the Clipper. Also your windshield deck base has more height to it than the Clipper. Try posting up or checking the library at fiberglassics.com if you get nowhere here.

I agree. Transom looks pretty normal for that type of boat. It should be a fun one to run. It's good looking too - hope you get the mystery solved.

Re: Help to identify

Closest looking boat i've seen so far would be early to mid sixties Elgin fiberglass runabout. Maybe even sold through Sears. I'll try tracing the registration numbers again maybe that'll turn up something.Looking at the bow navigation light might be able to get some kind of manufacturer hit off that thing! (if every boat didn't come with the same type).

Re: Help to identify

The only two Canadian manufacturers I can think of off the top of my head are Grew and Peterborough, neither of which are in the lists at Fiberglassics. Not sure when they made the switchover to wood, but your boat has the 1960s look to it and most were going glass by that time. Elgins were also sold through Sears in Canada - not sure who made them for Sears, though. Starcraft made some of them, and I think Lone-Star may have made some, too.

Good luck!

Re: Help to identify

As long as we're grasping for straws, maybe it's a Shell Lake boat. Been a while since I've seen one. My neighbor had one at his cottage on where else: Shell Lake, Wisconsin.

Re: Help to identify

Here are some more pics as we're heading out on a awesome first sunny day of spring. Cultus Lake B.C. Canada. Um never mind the Stars and Stripes..was the only flag my dad had kicking around the shop. In all fairness it looked proud and strong and the 1969 40hp Johnson electra-matic didn't miss a beat. I was kinda worried about the clutch dogs slipping and kicking out of gear but all worry was unfounded. Did seem to take a while to get planed up and up to speed but am not familiar (looks to much like family liar lol!) on how well these engines are supposed to perform. Will try a few more things to get her to plane out a little sooner if all else fails will have to find more h.p. or... different prop pitch? Who knows... this is my first boat so I don't really know what to expect from this classic.

Looks like my old early 60's Crestliner, which was made in Waterloo, Ontario.
