i have a chris craft scorpion just purchased and the original owner told me he had damaged the original prop and just installed a prop he found that would work but he advised me i would need to change prop for better performance..presently the max rpms is running 4200 and max speed of 33 mph as per the gps..i'am looking to get 40-45 mph if possible..the motor is a i/o 350/260hp and the outdrive is a cobra 280..i have also ordered a k@n airfilter 4inch tall type because i'am the factory looks very restrictive and i like can get more power with large air filter for more air intake..i work in the auto ind so very familiar with a 350 engine but mot at all familiar with outdrives or props..need help picking the corrrect prop ie number of blades, size pitchand etc...looking for more top speed

Re: help to pick the right prop

All the numbers you gave us are important and required to make any suggestions. However, not knowing what prop you have that produced those numbers leaves us in the dark. Check the prop to see if there is a manufacturers part number or diameter and pitch stamped on the hub or behind the prop nut. Diameter and pitch are usually shown as 15 x 18P or something similar. A part number will be a string of number and may contain some letters.

Make sure your k&n air filter is a flame arrestor made for the marine environment. Do not use a standard k&n filter for an automotive engine.
