Not sure but think we may have a problem with our transom trim switch. 1996 SeaRay 7.4 Bravo 1. We have gone through more batteries than u can imagine. Beleive we have narrowed it down to the trim but not sure. Should the transon trim switch have a constant 12v with battery switches off??? Nothing else in the boat has power except this switch. Trim has always been crappy ever since day 1. Has always been intermittent and never seems to get fixed. Boat wont trim up at the commander either half the time. Anyone have a suggestion?

Only if the trim pump is wired directly to the battery

It is - there is a wire connected to the battery for the pump. What however would create a constant drain on the battery and keep killing it then? Could the pump be bad? There doesn't appear to be any shorts in the wiring.

Trim pump shouldnt be a issue with batteries. Do you have a 12V fridge?
Is the alt. charging the batteries ?

No fridge or anything. Had the alternator checked and it checked out okay. Belts and all are tight. However, just went outside and had boat fired up and the battery is not getting charged when idling it is reading at 12 on a voltmeter - now I was told that when running the battery should be getting about 14 or so to charge from the alternator. Is this correct?

If there are 4 wires on the alt, thick black, thick orange, thin red, thin purple
Then you should see atleast 13.6 -14.6 running. If you have a heavy black, heavy orange, you have a 1 wire type, it needs to get to 1500rpm before it starts charging. The heavy orange wire goes back to the battery to charge it but sometimes goes thru a 110Amp connector that is connected to the starter. looks like a off white/beige square plastic piece with a brass plate at the starter and a lug for the orange wire. Could just be a corrosion issue.
