iv posted something like this before and was told could just jump starter to and it would spark but i dont believe that is the case. i have a mercury 115hp 76 i think at least thats what the title says i have the engine sitting in my garage as project motor. iv tested compression and its all perfect now i want to test spark iv jumped the starter and no luck getting a spark. this is a model with switch box, coil, and distributor. i do not have the controls. i want to know what i need to jump on the switch box to make it think the key is on so it will spark. my switchbox number is 332-2986a21 now iv looked on cdi electronics and came up with this http://cdielectronics.com/InstallSheet/114-2986.pdf as a guide line i guess and i did the wiring except trying to bypass the distributor. because i would like to know if all of it works. if anyone has any ideals or thoughts would i appreciate it. thank you.

The boat harness for that motor includes the batery cables. Have you used jumper cables to hook the battery to the motor?

It is very simple to test the switchbox on that motor. If it is the OEM Switchbox, follow the CDIElectronics troubleshooting test. The link you posted is for a replacement CDI Switchbox, which is different than OEM.

The OEM switchbox must have +12VDC on the red and adjacent white wires on the switchbox. Ground must be applied to the small black wire on the engine harness as well as the frame of the motor.
