I have a 2005 200 HPDI and this past week I replaced the Pressure Control Valve (poppit valve) and the water pump. Good thing I did because I found the "large" o-ring for the water pump housing was broken. Well, I took it out this morning and when I started it I had 6 psi of water pressure at idle and a VERY good stream of water from the motor. I ran the boat and had 20+ psi at WOT. After a few runs and I noticed I my water pressure gauge of reading zero at idle again (read this before the change). Still had a decent water stream from the motor. When I ran the boat I had 8 psi at 4000 rpm and when I got to WOT I had about 10-12 psi. Any ideas what the problem is? How much water pressure do they normally have at idle? Thanks for any help.

Re: Help - Water Pressure / Water Pump / Pressure Control Valve

that oring was not the issue.
did you replace the pressure control valve grommet after carefully cleaning the grommet pocket?
minimum spec is 11 PSI at 2000 RPM best I recall.
have you checked your pressure gauge line for debris?
while the pump was off did you remove and carefully clean the pocket that holds the rubber dam under the aft end of the wear plate.
did you use kit number 61a-woo78-a3 or its equivalent?
was there any sign of melt in the housing pocket?

Re: Help - Water Pressure / Water Pump / Pressure Control Valve

Thanks for the reply rodbolt. Here are the answers to your questions. I hope you can help me diagnose and fix this problem.

did you replace the pressure control valve grommet after carefully cleaning the grommet pocket? I replaced the valve, grommet, and gasket

have you checked your pressure gauge line for debris? No. What is the best way to check this?

while the pump was off did you remove and carefully clean the pocket that holds the rubber dam under the aft end of the wear plate. I am not sure of what you are referring to as the "rubber dam". After finally removing the keyway I removed the lower plate, cleaned the remaining gasket material, and installed the new plate.

did you use kit number 61a-woo78-a3 or its equivalent? I used Yamaha part numbers 60X-W0078-00 (water pump kit) and 61A-44311-01 (water pump housing)

was there any sign of melt in the housing pocket? Yes

Re: Help - Water Pressure / Water Pump / Pressure Control Valve

post a full model number.
about the only way to check the water pressure line is to dissconnect both ends and flush it with air or water.
stuck open Tstats will dump water pressure as well.
my guess is this is a VZ200 which takes slightly different parts than a standard Z200.
but post a model number.
if i get a chance Ill look it up when at the shop today cleaning up.

Re: Help - Water Pressure / Water Pump / Pressure Control Valve

Thanks ALOT for the help!

Model No. VZ200TLRD and the Engine Family No. 5YMXM3.342CB

What I found odd was I had good water pressure on the gauge and a VERY good stream leaving the motor when I first started the motor. However, after a few runs the water pressure dopped to zero on the gauge at idle (was 6 when I first started it after the change) and the stream from the motor was not as strong. Since I had 6 psi at idle when I started the motor after the change I would think the gauge is good and there is no blockages. But, please let me know what you think or can find out.
