help with 1973 mercruiser 165 out drive

I am trying to help an friend with an older outdrive the trim limits are bad but not located on pivoits which is what I am used to........can some one help me on the these older models. also if someone could help with an source for this part...show to be part # 56046a1

That is the hazards of having real old engines and outdrives. Finding part that are no longer available.

they were located in the transom housing under the steering shaft pin.with a drive this old your better to just bypass the original system and use caution when trimming

Ayuh,............... That's an Old 1..........<br /><br />An Old Indian trick I learned many moons ago,.......If your Bud is desperate for a trim indicator.......<br /><br />Drill,+ Tap a hole in the extreme rear area of the upperunit, just behind the Hole for removing the zinc...........<br />Screw in an Antenna off a car........<br />It's not a gauge on the dash,.. But it's a pretty good Visual Indicator......Depending on the boat...... ;)
