My friend has a 1988 Force 40hsp outboard 40 ELPT. It sat for about 4 years and he brought it over to get it running, install a new impeller and change lower unit oil. After tinkering over an hour we got it started(new gas in tank). It actually idled good but upon increasing throttle it would die. We started it and sprayed carb cleaner and same results. Changed the impeller and lower unit oil and went o restart and nothing. I told him he needed to rebuild carb. We cannot find a rebuild kit for the carb. Any advise would be mostly appreciated. Jim

Found carb kits but they are $100. He doesn't want to spend that much. Would just gaskets replaced and soak the carb and parts worK?

Soaks can hurt more than they help.
The main jets probably clogged???
Clean the carb again.

95% of the time all you need is a can of carb spray ,
Dawn soap and maybe a bowl gasket?

Change the fuel pump diaphragm. $7
