Help With 50hp merc. thunderbolt

hello all..i got this 50hp Merc.thunderbolt 1967 S/N 2248051
I am trying to clean and service before trying to start.
i want to take off the distributor cap,but it has about five screws and nuts all around and i cannot reach them, there is points in there that needs to be cleaned/replaced...Yes?

You have a battery CD from the description you give so there are no points and in any case you will need to drop the dist. to get the cap off.

If the engine is misfiring it could have a dirty cap but there are no points to clean.
