Re: Help With A Evinrude

The horn in the remote control is the warning horn. Each cylinder head should have one overheat switch connected to a tan wire that runs to the remote control through the harness.

The horn is wired directly to the positive side of the ignition switch accessory post; the alarm system works by providing a ground at the engine when there is a problem.

The switches are off or on. If they sound the horn, shut the engine down immediately. If they are not functioning, you should replace them.

See the article here and scroll down for the diagrams:

Re: Help With A Evinrude

The head temp sensors will go to ground at 212 degrees, sounding the horn, then open back up when the temp gets to 175. Normally they are open. You can pull the rubber cover back off the wire sensor lead's knife electrical connector. Grounding the harness end to the block when the key is on, should sound the horn. If you don't get a horn, you can check the sensors per the factory manual. Make sure to check the horn, too. Yours may sound the horn for a few seconds when the key is first turned on-if so, it is ok. If you have to replace a sensor, you don't have to pull the head, only the head cover..
